Standards

Acknowledging the adoption of NGSS by the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Education in 2016, the revised and updated Hōʻike o Haleakalā (HOH) website is a companion for educators who are aligning their instruction to NGSS.

Learning activities may be searched by all three dimensions of the NGSS Framework: DCI (Core Standards), Science and Engineering Practices (SEP) and Cross-Cutting Concepts (C3).

A complete list of middle and high school DCI supported by HOH curriculum along with a brief description can be found in this document, NGSS in Ho’ike Quick Look.

In addition, users may find it useful to choose a learning activity according to the lesson type, a feature that is also searchable in this update.

The Hōʻike o Haleakalā Curriculum was originally produced by the Hawaiʻi Natural History Association, Nā Kumu o Haleakalā, Haleakalā National Park, and The Nature Conservancy.

The curriculum is now housed, maintained, and promoted by the Maui Invasive Species Committee, a project of the University of Hawaiʻi-Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit.
